 WHERE WERE YOU

WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT? (1968)

In this clever comedy, Doris Day spoofs herself as Margaret Garrison, a cosmopolitan actress who has made a career out of playing virgins. She's considering retirement, which send her producer straight to the analyst's couch. Her husband (Patrick O'Neal), who's been keeping her in the dark for some time, is being "interviewed" by a voracious lady reporter (:ola Albright). Corporate drone Waldo Zane (Robert Morse) is about to embezzle millions. It's business as usual in Manhattan, but then the infamous Eastern Seaboard blackout of 1965 hits, forcing them all to cope with total darkness - and each other.

With a supporting cast that includes comedy greats Steve Allen, Jim Backus and Pat Paulson, this urbane farce is "one of the funniest films to emanate from M-G-M has a sort of Chaplinesque air about it" (The Hollywood Citizen-News).
